Why Croatia is the perfect location – the history behind it
Croatia is filled with castles and palaces. From the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, or even the Republic of Venice. Croatia was a contested land for a large part of history. Therefore, a lot of castles and fortresses were built along the coast and in between the mountains for protection. Good news for us! This means there are a lot of beautiful historical locations, that look amazing on wedding photographs. Most are still fully intact or very well renovated, providing an ideal place for a castle wedding party or elopement for you and your life partner.
Hutterott Castle
Hutterott is located in Rovinj, Istria. Istria is known for its outstanding food and wine culture. The castle itself is like a fairy tale. Surrounded by amazing fresh lush green spaces bursting with culture. The castle was built in the 6th century, being one of the oldest in the region. You’ll surely feel like a princess on your special day here. The white stone chapel next to the water is amazing to capture your best moments in pictures that will last you a lifetime. With a maximum of 150 people, it is not the biggest. However, it will make sure your fairytale dream comes true.
Fort George – Vis Island
Fort George is a unique ancient fort on the Island of Vis. Right at the Sea and close to the main port, the location is both convenient and exceptionally beautiful. Vis is popular because it has the most beautiful nature and pine forests, with the miraculous Blue Cave being the star of the show. This cave is filled with magical blue lights from the sun’s reflection on the sea. It’s easy to see why the Island was used as a set for the hit movie Mamma Mia 2. To watch this wedding movie once is to get a feeling of how breathtaking a wedding in Vis can truly be. The architecture of the towns is beautiful and no matter where you are staying, it’s always a 5-minute walk from the beach. Enjoy the view of small sailing boats going past, while you enjoy each other’s company on one of these rocky beaches. For the curious, telescopes can be found near the fortress to gaze at the islands and boats passing by on a quiet peaceful day. The fortress itself offers accommodation for 150-180 people. So even for a larger wedding party, it remains spacious. Trakošćan Castle
Situated in the exceptionally beautiful hills of Zagorje next to a lake and a park forest. Wedding ceremonies here are allowed on the outside terraces. This castle is sure to provide a unique atmosphere for your wedding photos. Built in the style of 12th and 13th-century architecture, it is very much in a Romanesque style. This would fit a small wedding party the best since it’s a small town with not a lot of room. However, there is a hotel nearby with two very good restaurants that could help with any catering for the wedding.
Fortress of Klis
The fortress of Klis is renowned for its beautiful coastline and historic significance. It was the royal seat of many Croatian Kings, built in the 9th century. Whether you prefer a symbolic, church, or civil ceremony, all can be done here. It is very spacious and flexible. It can be rented for just you and your life partner, or up to 170 guests. The castle was used before as a film set in the popular series “Game of Thrones” as the city of Mereen, because of its beauty and level of preservation. Therefore, it looks amazing on camera, and the pictures you can take are simply magnificent. The majestic traditional orange roofs of the town, with the typical gray stone walls and ancient stairs, give an immensely accurate medieval feel to this location. Therefore, a wedding here at Klis Fortress would make you feel like a princess for sure.
